How to convert meters to centimeters
- Take the value in meters.
- Use the formula centimeters = meters × 100.
- For example, 0.5 m is 50 cm.
About meters and centimeters
Multiply meters by 100 to get centimeters, or move the decimal point two places right. 1.8 m is 180 cm, 0.45 m is 45 cm and 2.1 m is 210 cm.
Fabric, curtains and timber are often priced or cut by the meter, while tape measures and patterns read in centimeters. Converting also makes small decimals clearer: 0.05 m is just 5 cm.
Examples
- 0.5 m (half a meter of fabric) is 50 cm
- 1.6 m (a height of 1.60 m) is 160 cm
- 1.8 m (a height of 1.80 m) is 180 cm
- 2.4 m (a common room ceiling height) is 240 cm
