How to convert centimeters to meters
- Take the value in centimeters.
- Use the formula meters = centimeters ÷ 100.
- For example, 30 cm is 0.3 m.
About centimeters and meters
A meter is 100 centimeters, so divide cm by 100 to get meters. Move the decimal point two places left: 175 cm is 1.75 m, 80 cm is 0.8 m and 320 cm is 3.2 m.
Heights, furniture and fabric are usually measured in cm, while room sizes, BMI formulas and many forms want meters. BMI in particular uses height in meters squared, so a height of 170 cm goes into the formula as 1.7.

- 30 cm (a school ruler) is 0.3 m
- 90 cm (a common kitchen worktop height) is 0.9 m
- 170 cm (an adult’s height) is 1.7 m
- 200 cm (a typical European bed length) is 2 m
