How to make a Markdown table
- Type into the grid; the first row is the header. Use + Row and + Column to add more, or press Enter in the last row for a new one. Delete row and Delete column remove the ones with the cursor in them.
- Or copy cells from Excel, Google Sheets or a CSV file and paste them into any cell, or into the box below and press Make table from this.
- Set each column's alignment above it, then copy the Markdown or download it as table.md.
Converting a spreadsheet to Markdown
Copying cells in Excel, Google Sheets or Numbers puts them on the clipboard as tab-separated text. Paste into any cell of the grid and the tool fills the cells from that point, adding rows and columns as needed. CSV files work the same way: the tool spots whether values are separated by commas, semicolons or tabs, and handles quoted values that contain commas. You can also paste an existing Markdown table to edit it.
Keep tables readable
Markdown tables work best when they’re small. Wide tables with long sentences in cells are hard to read on phones and hard to edit as text. Keep headers short, put long explanations in the text around the table, and right-align columns of numbers so the digits line up.
