How to convert kilowatts to watts
- Take the value in kilowatts.
- Use the formula watts = kilowatts × 1,000.
- For example, 0.75 kW is 750 W.
About kilowatts and watts
A kilowatt is 1,000 watts, so multiply kW by 1,000 to get watts. 1.5 kW is 1,500 W, 0.8 kW is 800 W and 7.4 kW is 7,400 W.
Heaters, ovens, EV chargers and solar systems are rated in kW, while bulbs, chargers and smaller appliances are rated in watts. Converting lets you add them up, for example to check whether a generator or a circuit can run everything at once.
Examples
- 0.75 kW (a 750 W microwave) is 750 W
- 1.5 kW (a 1,500 W space heater) is 1,500 W
- 3 kW (a 3 kW kettle) is 3,000 W
- 7.4 kW (a home EV charger on a 32 amp single-phase supply) is 7,400 W
