How to turn an image into ASCII art

  1. Press Open an image, or drop or paste one. A sample shows until you do.
  2. Pick the characters: Simple, Detailed, Blocks or Braille dots, which show the most detail. Set the width in characters and the contrast. Tick Invert for art that goes on a dark background, and Color to keep the picture’s colors.
  3. Press Copy text to paste the art into a chat, a code comment or a document, or save it as a TXT or PNG file.

Getting good ASCII art

  • Use a picture with a clear subject. Faces, logos and animals against a plain background turn out best; busy scenes turn into noise.
  • Raise the contrast if the art looks gray and flat.
  • Match the background. Art made for a white page looks like a negative on a dark one. Tick Invert for dark chat themes and terminals.
  • For big letters made of text, use the ASCII art generator instead.
