How to calculate your GPA
- In Courses, write one course per line: an optional name, the grade, then the credits, like “Biology B+ 4”.
- Use letter grades (A, B+, C-) or grade points (3.7) for the grade, whichever is on your transcript.
- Read your GPA, weighted by credits. Tick Weighted GPA to add the AP, IB and honors bonus (put AP, IB or Honors in the course name), and enter your Current GPA and Credits so far for a cumulative GPA.
Grade points on the 4.0 scale
| Letter | Points | Letter | Points |
|---|---|---|---|
| A+ | 4.0 | C+ | 2.3 |
| A | 4.0 | C | 2.0 |
| A− | 3.7 | C− | 1.7 |
| B+ | 3.3 | D+ | 1.3 |
| B | 3.0 | D | 1.0 |
| B− | 2.7 | D− | 0.7 |
| F | 0.0 |
This is the standard US 4.0 scale. Schools differ in the details: some don’t give D− or A+, and some use their own table, so check your student handbook if your official GPA doesn’t match.
Entering your courses
Each line needs the grade and the credits at the end, separated by a space. The course name in front is optional and can contain spaces or numbers, so “Chem 101 B- 4” works. Grades can be upper or lower case. Pass/fail courses usually don’t count towards GPA, so leave them out.
If a line can’t be read, the calculator tells you which one. The most common cause is a missing credit number or a grade the 4.0 scale doesn’t use, such as E.
