How to use the frequency converter
- Type a value in either box. Decimals with a comma or a point both work.
- Choose the units on each side, or press the arrows to swap them.
- The table below shows the value in every unit at once. Click a row to convert to that unit.
About frequency units
One hertz is one cycle per second. The prefixed units step by 1,000: a kilohertz is 1,000 Hz, a megahertz 1,000,000 Hz and a gigahertz 1,000,000,000 Hz. Radio stations, processor clocks and Wi-Fi bands are all quoted in these.
Rotating machines use revolutions per minute. A minute has 60 seconds, so 1 Hz is 60 rpm, and a motor at 3,000 rpm turns 50 times a second.
Physics and engineering often use angular frequency in radians per second, written ω. One full cycle is 2π radians, so 1 Hz is 2π rad/s, about 6.28319 rad/s. Mixing up the two puts a result off by a factor of about 6.28.
