How to play Crazy Eights

  1. Pick 2, 3 or 4 players. With two players everyone gets seven cards; with more, five each. A new number of players starts with the next game.
  2. On your turn, play a card that matches the top card’s suit or rank. Any 8 can be played at any time; you then name the suit the next player must follow.
  3. With nothing to play, click the stock to draw until you can. The first player to get rid of every card wins the round and scores the cards left in the other hands. First to 100 points wins with two players, 150 with three and 200 with four.

Tips for winning at Crazy Eights

  • Save your 8s. An 8 can always be played, so it’s your way out when you have nothing else. Don’t spend it early unless it wins the round.
  • Change suits to your long suit. When you play an 8, name the suit you hold most of, so your next turns are easy.
  • Watch what others draw for. If a player draws several cards, they’re probably out of the current suit. Keep that suit going.
  • Get rid of high cards. Faces and 10s cost 10 points each if someone else goes out first, and 8s cost 50.

About the game

Crazy Eights is a shedding card game for two or more players, played with a standard 52-card deck. Players take turns matching the top card of the discard pile by suit or rank, with 8s wild, and the first to empty their hand wins. This version plays against one to three computer players and keeps score to 100, 150 or 200 points, depending on how many play.
