How to change the speed of audio
- Drop your audio file into the box or choose it. Several files at once work too.
- Set the Speed: above 1 is faster (1.25 is a quarter faster), below 1 is slower (0.75 is a quarter slower). Leave Keep the original pitch ticked so voices sound natural.
- Play the result to check it, then download. Change the speed and it updates automatically.
Faster or slower without the chipmunk effect
Playing a recording faster normally raises its pitch, which is why sped-up voices sound like cartoon characters. To avoid that, the tool cuts the audio into short overlapping slices of about 46 milliseconds and spaces them closer together or further apart. Each slice is lined up with the one before so the waveform joins smoothly, and the slices are cross-faded. The result is shorter or longer at the same pitch.
The tape-style mode skips all that and simply plays the samples faster or slower, which changes the speed and the pitch together, just like speeding up a record.
Common uses
- Lectures and podcasts: save a 1.25× or 1.5× copy to listen anywhere, even in players without a speed setting.
- Learning music: slow a solo to 0.75× or 0.5× to work out the notes, with the pitch unchanged so you can play along.
- Language practice: slow down dialogue to catch every word.
- Edits and remixes: untick Keep the original pitch for nightcore (around 1.25×) or slowed (around 0.8×) versions.
- Fitting a time slot: a 2 minute 10 second voice-over at 1.08× fits into 2 minutes.
