How to convert words to numbers
- Type or paste number words into Number words, one number per line.
- Each line becomes digits as you type. Hyphens, commas and “and” are fine to leave in.
- Untick Thousands separators for plain digits, then copy or download the result.
How written numbers are read
The converter reads each line from left to right. Small numbers add up (twenty plus five is 25), “hundred” multiplies what comes before it, and a large word like thousand or million closes off a group: “three hundred and five thousand two hundred” is 305 thousand plus 200, so 305,200. British “and” (one hundred and five) and American style (one hundred five) both work.
| Words | Digits |
|---|---|
| one hundred and twenty-three | 123 |
| two thousand and twenty-six | 2,026 |
| nineteen eighty-four | 1,984 |
| four point five | 4.5 |
| twelve lakh | 1,200,000 |
| twenty-first | 21st |
Lakh and crore
In India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nepal, large numbers are often said in lakh (100,000) and crore (10,000,000). “Five lakh” is 500,000 and “two crore” is 20,000,000. The result uses international thousands separators; untick the option for plain digits.
