Quick mental conversion
For a full-time job, divide the yearly salary by 2,000 to get a rough hourly rate. It assumes 40 hours a week for 50 weeks, so it slightly overstates the rate for people paid across all 52 weeks. 60,000 a year is about 30 an hour by this rule, and exactly 28.85 on 2,080 hours.
| Yearly salary | Hourly (40 h × 52 weeks) |
|---|---|
| 30,000 | 14.42 |
| 40,000 | 19.23 |
| 52,000 | 25.00 |
| 75,000 | 36.06 |
| 100,000 | 48.08 |
Comparing a salaried job with an hourly one
An hourly rate makes job offers easier to compare, but only if both sides count the same things. A salaried role often includes paid holidays, sick pay and other benefits that an hourly or contract role may not, and the hourly rate here doesn’t include them. Unpaid overtime pulls a salaried rate down, which the hours field shows clearly. The monthly figure is the yearly salary divided by 12, which is what most monthly payslips show before deductions.
