How to generate random colors
- Set How many colors you want, from 1 to 48, and choose a Kind: any color, light, dark, pastel or bright.
- Click Generate or press Space for new colors. Click Lock under a color to keep it while the others change.
- Choose HEX, RGB or HSL, then click a color or its Copy button to copy its code. Copy all copies every code, one per line.
What random colors are good for
- Design and art prompts: generate one color and build a piece around it, or draw three and make them work together.
- Placeholders and test data: fill charts, avatars or mock-ups with distinct colors while the real design isn’t ready.
- Games and classrooms: pick a color for each team, or quiz people on naming a color from its hex code.
Getting usable colors
Fully random colors often come out muddy or greyish. If you want something you can use straight away, pick a kind: Pastel gives soft, light colors, Bright gives saturated colors at medium lightness, and Dark suits text and backgrounds in dark themes. Lock any color you like and keep generating until the rest fit.
To convert a code between formats, use the color converter. For a palette that hangs together, use the color palette generator.
