How to convert megawatt-hours to kilowatt-hours
- Take the value in megawatt-hours.
- Use the formula kilowatt-hours = megawatt-hours × 1,000.
- For example, 0.06 MWh is 60 kWh.
About megawatt-hours and kilowatt-hours
A megawatt-hour is 1,000 kilowatt-hours, so multiply MWh by 1,000 to get kWh. 0.5 MWh is 500 kWh and 12.5 MWh is 12,500 kWh.
Wholesale electricity, power plant output, grid batteries and company energy reports use MWh, while household bills and car batteries use kWh. Converting puts big numbers into units people know from their own meter.
Examples
- 0.06 MWh (a 60 kWh electric car battery) is 60 kWh
- 1 MWh (one megawatt-hour) is 1,000 kWh
- 10 MWh (ten megawatt-hours) is 10,000 kWh
- 100 MWh (a 100 MWh grid battery) is 100,000 kWh
