How to play the dinosaur game

  1. Press Space or the up arrow, or tap the game on a phone, to start running.
  2. Jump over the cacti. Later, pterodactyls fly in: jump the low ones and hold the down arrow to duck under the high ones.
  3. The game speeds up as your score climbs, and every so often it turns to night. One hit ends the run; press Space or tap to go again.

Tips for a higher score

  • Jump late. Jump just before the cactus reaches you. Jumping early often lands you on it.
  • Use the fast drop. Pressing down in the air pulls you back to the ground sooner, which helps when obstacles come close together.
  • Watch the birds’ height. A bird at head height needs a duck; a bird near the ground needs a jump.

Where the game comes from

The T-Rex runner first appeared in 2014 on the page browsers show when there’s no internet. Its code and graphics are open source as part of the Chromium project, which is why it can be played here. The license and credits are on our about page.
